Langjahr, Pearl Evangeline (2 Nov. 1900 - 13 May 1949)

Pearl Evangeline Draper Langjahr was born Nov. 2nd, 1900 in the Town of Unity. She was the daughter of Ed and Lyda Draper, who preceded her in death.

She lived most of her life in Unity, except for a few years when she was employed in Madison.

On December 8, 1932 she was united in marriage to Elmer A. Langjahr of Colby at Rockford, Illinois. Elmer preceded her in death September 25, 1948.

She had been in very poor health for the last year. Although every medical aid was given to restore her health, it was to no avail, and she passed away at 11:55 Friday morning at the St. Joseph hospital at Marshfield in the arms of her niece.

Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death, Roy, Charles, Guy, Edythe and Enid. The only surviving relatives are Mrs. Guy (Leslea) Turner, who made her home with the Langjahr’s from childhood, and a cousin, C. J. Hirsch, of Abbotsford, Wis.

Pearl was a faithful and devoted Christian. She gave her heart to Christ many years ago and she freely gave of her time and resources for the advancement of the church and community. She was a member of the Unity Methodist Church where she presided at the piano for many years. She also was superintendent of the Sunday School for nearly 11 years, when she had to resign because of her health. She was a member of the Womens Society of Christian Service and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Pearl will be sadly missed by her niece and family and her many friends. If Pearl could give to each of us a message today, she no doubt would urge us to hold high the torch of Jesus Christ and devote our lives to His service.

The following is a poem she composed picturing the flight of a soul:

SUNSET

The shadows of day softly fall And then it is sunset!

She lived through the spring, the summer, the fall, And then it was Sunset!

She has been with you through all these years, Sharing your joys, your laughter and tears, Serving her God the best she knew how, Till death gently settled up on her brow.

So she traveled on to the land of rest, Behind the sunset sky; Trusting completely that God knows best, And would welcome her on high.

The shadows of day softly fall, And then comes the Sunset.

Funeral services were conducted at the Unity Methodist Church May 16th at 2 p.m. by Rev. J. A. Olson. She was laid to rest in the Colby cemetery.

Pallbearers were Alfred Johnson, Gust Carlson, Anton Korntved, Leo Hebert, Martin Evenson and Joe Spencer.

Flower girls were Mrs. Alfred Johnson, Mrs. S. A. Cook, Mrs. Ted Salter, Mrs. Martin Evenson, Mrs. Sam Stark and Mrs. Joe Spencer.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Domer sang "Heartaches," "Home Sweet Home" and a song written and composed by Mrs. Langjahr, "Friend of Mine" accompanied by Mrs. Tom Loughead.
