Loretta Louise Haas, 75, of Thorp, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 17, 2007.

Lorretta Louise Brunett was born on September 28, 1931 in the Township of Butler in rural Thorp, the daughter of Paul and Apolonia (David) Brunett. She attended school in the Thorp area and graduated valedictorian of her class from Thorp High School in 1949. On October 8, 1949, she was united in marriage to Casper F. Haas. Together they farmed in the Town of Worden for 27 years from 1958 - 1985 while raising their large family. She was an avid gardener and many a passerby admired her flowers.

Loretta was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp, where she was a member of the choir for 20 years, served as chairperson of the Parish Council of Christian Women (PCCW) and volunteered at the Thorp Catholic Schools. She had a strong belief in God, in the power of prayer, and a devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Loretta is survived by Casper, her husband of 57 years; her fourteen children: Deb (Gordy) Christians of Hayward, Ken (Beth) of Chetek, Daniel of Thorp, Beverly of Madison, Phyllis of Thorp, Mike (Char) of Thorp, Brian (Jenny) of Thorp, Ralph (Ria) of Menomonie, Robert of Oostburg, Doris (Wade) Zachow of Athens, and Casper (Melissa) of Eau Claire; twenty-seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers: Francis, Edward, Bernard and Ronald and an infant son, Roger.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church with Father Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Pallbearers were grand children: Amy Christians, Jacob Haas, Lieutenant Michelle Hass, Staff Sergeant Erik Haas, Chad Haas, and Brianne Bergman. Scripture readers were grandchildren: Kate Christians, Mindy Haas, Gloria Meyer, and Lindy Bergman. Gift bearers were: Carrie Brunett, Darrel Haas, Keith Seaman and Cindy Baehr.
