Pflieger, Alphonse (3 April 1890 - 1939)

Alphonse Pflieger was born April 3, 1890, on his father’s farm, north of Humbird, in the town of Mentor. He spent his boyhood days there and attended St. Joseph’s parochial school at Fairview. As a young man he was employed for several years in Alma Center. In spring of 1918, he was drafted and the following September he went to France. He arrived back in July, 1919. Until he became ill in 1933 he made his home with his brother Joseph, on the farm north of town. In February, 1933, he was taken to the Krohn Clinic, where he spent a few months, and then returned to his brother’s home for a year. After which he went to Mt. Washington sanatorium, Eau Claire, where he died Feb. 20, 1939. He attained the age of 48 years, 10 months and 17 days.

He leaves to mourn his death, his aged father, whose home is in Eau Claire; one brother, Joseph; of this vicinity; four sisters; Mrs. H. Hagman, Eau Claire; Mrs. C. Landgraf, Mrs. L. DeCrosey, and Miss Celia, all of St. Paul; niece nephews and seventeen nieces. His mother preceded him in death in 1908.

Funeral services were held both at St. Patrick’s church, Eau Claire and St. Joseph’s Church, Fairview, last Thursday, Rev. Msgr. C. E. Dowd and Rev. J. J. Sheridan officiating. He was given last honors by the Melcher-Matti post of the American Legion of Humbird. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Fairview.
