Nicholas Ball

GRANTON -- Nicholas Ball, age 85, of Granton died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at his home on Starr Road.

Funeral services for Nicholas will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 22, 2007, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wis. The service will be led by Ed Petkovsek.

Visitation time will be held from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Nicholas was born May 8, 1921, in Kransadar, Ukraine, the son of Likandra and Yefrosinia (Mochno) Ball. He moved to Belgium and later to Germany, where he married Maria. In 1952, they moved to the United States and lived in Chicago, where Nicholas worked for the Liberty Trucking Co. as a mechanic for 20 years. Nicholas and Maria divorced but remained friends throughout the years. In the mid-1970s, he moved to Granton and farmed. He also worked for the town of Lynn.

Nicholas loved his farm, tending to his bees and his dog, Rosie. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his son, Erik (Teri) Ball of Treasure Island, Fla.; and a daughter, Alla Zodo of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; two grandchildren, Christine Simril and Christopher Luke Zodo; and two great-grandchildren, Conner and Megan Simril.
