Mannes, Olaves (16 DEC 1844 - 21 MAY 1931)

The community was shocked and saddened last Thursday to learn of the sudden death of O. Mannes at the home of his daughter, Ella, at Milwaukee. He took ill on Wednesday and died the following day. Although his death came as a shock to his immediate family as well as the host of friends here (Dorchester, Clark Co., Wis.).

Olaves Mannes was born in Norway on Dec. 16, 1844 and passed away May 21, 1931, at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 5 days. Mr. Mannes came to this country with his parents as a boy of four and lived in Hartford, Wis., during his boyhood days.

In 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss Marie Ann Kjer. Immediately after their marriage they settled at Plover and in 1879 they moved to a farm in Dorchester community. Later they moved into Dorchester, where they have since resided. For the past few winters the Mannes’ have been visiting with Miss Ella in Milwaukee.

Thirteen children were born to this happy union, eight sons and two daughters preceded their father in death. Those living are Miss Ella of Milwaukee, Mrs. J.H. Ardern of New Rochelle, N.Y., Miss Evelyn of Dorchester , Wm. Of Hibbing, Minn., Benjamin of Duluth, Minn., Carl, Casper, Launcelot and Elmer, all of Milwaukee. There are 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Mannes was the last of a family of three children.

Besides these immediate children and grandchildren there remain a large circle of friends and relatives. May it pleas God to comfort the wife and mother with these sons and daughters and all others and grant to all a happy reunion in the Father’s house above.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Mannes, Eveylyn and Ella, Mr.a nd Mrs. Casper Mannes and son, Carl, Launcelot and Elmer Mannes, all of Milwaukee, Mr.a nd Mrs. Wm. Mannes of Hibbing, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Mannes and son of Duluth, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Mannes, Mrs. Ida Larson and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Dawson of Oconomowoc, and Otto Sauter and son Earl of Phillips.
