COLBY - Ralph E. Jannene, 88, Colby, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at the Clark County Health Care, Owen, where he had been a resident following a car crash Nov. 27, 2004.

Funeral services are scheduled for noon, Thursday, Nov. 11, 2005, at First United Church of Christ with military rites conducted by the Colby Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2227. The Rev. Kenneth A. Dix will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at Maurina/Community Funeral Home, Colby, and again from 10 a.m. to service time Friday at the church.

Ralph was born Jan. 19,1917, in Pomfret, Conn., son of Ralph and Lillie (Cooper) Jannene. He served with the Military Police Platoon, 76th Infantry, from 1942 to 1945. Following his discharge, he settled in Marshfield as a mechanic. On Oct. 12,1950, he married Julia Huebscher in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Ralph and Julie then moved to Colby as he worked for I.M. Firnstahl and Jack Galvin, Abbotsford, Wis.

Ralph was a member of the First United Church of Christ and served on its council. He also served on the city council and Colby Fire Department. He was a life member and past commander of the Colby VFW Post No. 2227 and charter member of Colby Lions Club, earning the Melvin Jones Award. He also held membership in the RNA Colby Camp 2266.

He held a great passion for antique tractors and engines and was a member and past president of the North Central Wisconsin Steam & Gas Engine Club. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter both in Wisconsin and Montana. His workshop provided him with countless enjoyable hours of fellowship and pursuing his hobbies.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Julie of Colby; three sons, Ralph (Karen) Jannene, Burlington, Julian (Jayne) Jannene, Colby, and Dean (Gee Gee) Jannene, Janesville; one daughter, Jana (Tom) Nomady, Mosinee; also one brother, Walter (Ann) Jannene, Virginia Beach, Va.; and seven grandchildren, Adam, Anna, Ashley, Cole, Jeramey and Garrick Jannene and Kyle Nomady.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services are scheduled for 12 noon, Nov. 11, 2005, at First United Church of Christ with military rites conducted by the Colby Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2227. The Rev. Kenneth A. Dix will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Community Funeral Home, Colby, and again prior to services at the church beginning at 10 a.m.
