Anson Green, Sr was born 22 Dec 1816 in Middletown, Delaware Co., NY son of Smith Green, Sr (born Ohio) and his first wife Sarah Mellor (born England), Mary (Polly) Helford was the second wife of Smith Green, Sr. and was Anson's step-mother.

Anson Green, Sr.'s siblings: Cynthia c1814 married Simon Evans in 1842; Marcus c1820; Edna c1823; Smith, Jr. c1824 married Catherine;

Anson Green, Sr's half-siblings: Lydia 15 Dec 1833 NY married Washington Short; Landa c1836; Wallace c1838; Abrigal c1842 married Tom Welch on 24 Dec 1868 Clark Co, WI; Alexander c1844.

Anson Green, Sr married Mary Esther Dean c1844 in NY. Their first two children were born in NY, Sarah c1845 and Wilbur c1850. Their third child was born in Penn c1857, name unknown, thought to have died before reaching WI. Their fourth child Ansel born Oct 1858 and fifth child Nora born c1868 were born in WI. There might have been other children who probably died young, probably in NY or Penn. (Census records)

Anson and Mary Esther Dean Green were witnesses to the 14 April 1855 wedding of Anson's half-sister Lydia Green and Washington Short in Franklin Dale, Bradford Co., Penn.

Anson Green,Sr. with wife Mary, children Sarah and Wilbur traveled to Wisconsin with Anson's half sister Abrigal, half sister Lydia, her husband Washington Short and their children James Wallace (born 1856 Erie, Penn) and George Arthur (born 1857 Towanda, Penn). They arrived in Levis, Clark Co, Wi in May 1858 and stayed for a while on Wedges Creek.

Anson Green, Sr.'s brother Smith Green, Jr came to Clark Co., WI from his home in Middletown, Delaware Co., NY in 1860, perhaps to think about moving. Smith Green has the distinction on appearing on two 1860 census records, on Pine Valley, Clark Co., WI date June 3-25, and on the NY census date Aug 4. At the time, Smith Green, Jr was married with three children.

Anson Green, Sr. had most likely taken a trip to Clark Co, WI prior to the May 1858 move of his family as he had taken all of Levis sec 7 & 8 on 10 Oct 1856. Anson also purchased, in 1856, the hotel/tavern in Neillsville originally built/owned by Robert Roix. Anson sold the hotel to Kellog Hubbard about 1863.

Anson Green, Sr. was heavily involved in real estate, buying and selling great quantities of land, and in the timber industry from about 1860, running his own logging camps. He also became a lawyer and was a member of the Clark Co., WI Bar.

Anson Green, Sr. died on 17 July, 1882 in Pine Valley, Clark Co. WI and is buried in the Neillsville Cemetery. Anson Green suffered a concussion a week or so before he died when he stepped off a moving train while half asleep. He was coming home, fell asleep and missed his stop. (Anson Green, Sr.'s grandson Anson also died as a result of a train accident on 10 Aug 1922.)
