Counsell, Elmer Glen (14 Oct. 1895 - 22 Dec. 1941)

Elmer Glen Counsell died at the Neillsville hospital Sunday evening, December 22, after a few hours illness following a hemorrhage of the brain.

He had gone to his work at the Cities Service station feeling apparently well that morning and he still appeared so when Mrs. Counsell and their son stopped at the station at 11:30 upon their return from Sunday school. When Mr. Counsell arrived at home shortly before noon he complained of a sever headache. He took a sedative to relieve the pain, and later returned to his work. Alarmed because her husband had eaten no dinner, Mrs. Counsell sent Keith over with some fruit and milk. The boy returned stating that his father felt better but in a few minutes the word came that he had suffered a stroke. He was taken to the Neillsville hospital where he passed away at 9:05 that evening.

Mr. Counsell was born in Oconomowoc, Wis., October 14, 1895, to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Counsell. When he was a small child his parents came to Clark County, purchasing a farm in the town of Grant. At the age of seven he returned to Oconomowoc to live with his grandparents and remained there until he was seventeen. He enlisted in the U. S. Army July 25, 1918, serving until May 7 of the following year.

On the 22nd day of August, 1923, Mr. Counsell was united in marriage to Miss Florence Huckstead of Neillsville, and this had been their home since. Two sons were born to them, the eldest dying in infancy. He is survived by his wife and son, Keith, his mother, Mrs. Mary J. Huckstead, 71, who is ill at the home of her niece, Mrs. Joseph Weix, Oconomowoc, and by three brothers and a sister namely: John, Neillsville; Eva, Mrs. Roy Stanley, Town of Grant; Kenneth, instructor of manual arts and athletic director, Wisconsin Dells, and Marvin, Milwaukee. Mr. Counsell’s father passed away 36 years ago.

All of the brothers and the sister are here for the funeral.

Mr. Counsell lived a quiet industrious life and was highly respected throughout the community. He became well known through his connection with the Rush Hake Dairy and as manager of the Cities Services station at the south end of the city. He also worked for the American Stores Dairy Company for eight years.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, December 24, with brief services at the Jaster Funeral Home at 1:30, military services following at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church, Rev. G. W. Longenecker and members of the American Legion, who will attend in a body, will conduct the rites.
