Meske, Anna Rose (18 Feb 1901 – 7 May 1975)

Anna Rose Meske, 74, died at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield of a stroke on Wednesday, May 7, 1975.  Funeral services were held

at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church on Saturday, May 10, 1975 at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Bill Buckman officiating, assisted by Rev. Brockman.  Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Raymond and Joseph Gettler, Phillip and James Straskowski, Francis Trybula and John C. Bloczynski.

Anna was born February 18, 1901 in Thorp, Wisconsin.  Before her marriage she was a teacher after attending Eau Claire Teacher's College.  On June 3, 1924 she was united in marriage to George Meske at Thorp, Wisconsin.

She is survived by her husband, George Meske; seven daughters, (Margaret) Mrs. John Bloczynski Jr. of Marshfield, (Mary Ann) Mrs. Charles W. Gettler of Milwaukee, (Irene) Mrs. Allen Klimek of Colorado Springs, Colorado, (Betty) Mrs. Felix Straskowski of Thorp, (Agnes) Mrs. Frank Trybula of Neillsville, (Beatrice) Mrs. Walter Husting, Milwaukee, and Dolores Meske of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five brothers, Martin Oberle of Thorp, Peter Oberle of Port Washington, Thomas Oberle of Owen, August Oberle of Thorp, and Leo Oberle of Gilman; two sisters (Agnes) Mrs. Anton Hendricks of Sheboygan, (Gertrude) Mrs. Peter Larson of Fort Atkinson; 45 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother, and two sisters.

Krueger, Holly Elizabeth (10 May 1975)

The chapel of First Congregational Church, Eau Claire was the setting for the wedding of Holly Elizabeth Krueger and Richard Raymond Wyczawski Saturday. The Rev. Gerald Bertach performed the two o’clock ceremony. Mrs. Eldon Urban provided nuptial music.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Edgar J. Krueger, 961 Third Street South, and Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Wyczawski, Thorp.

Bridesmaids were Connie Christensen and Anne Krueger, sister of the bride, both of Eau Claire.

Groomsmen were Dennis Klick of Ashland and Larry Reed of Eau Claire. Tom Bauer of Eau Claire was usher.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Mead Inn.

The bride attended the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, and is employed at May’s Floral Greenhouse, Eau Claire. The groom received a Bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire in December, and is presently employed at Jay’s in Eau Claire.

The Thorp High School graduation of the Class of 1975 will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 1975 at 8 p.m. The class consists of 74 seniors – seventeen less than last year.

Rev. Robert Olson of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Thorp, will deliver the invocation and benediction at the ceremony.

The presentation of the Top Ten Awards will be made by Principal of the high School, Floyd Hanley to Gloria Wellner, Lois Schmidt, Jacqueline Pajak, Kathleen Niedzwiecki, Mary Lato, Judy Kotecki, JoAnn Frinack, Dan Bieno, Vicky Belanger and Virginia Badzinski.

LeRoy Merlak, Superintendent of Schools will make the presentation to the Class and Frank Ogurek, President of the Board of Education, will present the diplomas.

Tim Ahles of Thorp has been named this year’s recipient of the Samuel Weiner Award for Academic Excellence, given by the University of Wisconsin, Marathon Center.

Now completing his sophomore year at UWMC, Tim Ahles has a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 and is planning to attend UW-Madison in the fall. Eventually he would like to go on to graduate school in clinical psychology.

Tim is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ahles, 700 Boardman Street, Thorp.

A Thorp widow lost all her possession in a fire here Monday afternoon.

Fire, which broke out around 3:45 p.m. Monday, completely gutted out the home of Mrs. Chris Zarada at 110 W. Franklin Street, and as a result most everything owned was lost by Mrs. Zarada.

Thorp firemen were not certain of the cause, but believe it was due to an electric clock.

Tuesday, friends of Mrs. Chris Zarada opened an account at the Peoples Exchange Bank her to aid her in this time of need.

Lawrence Jean Broeren was graduated with high academic Honors at Mount Scenario College commencement ceremonies held Sunday, May 11, 1975 at the college in Ladysmith. Broeren is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jean C. Broeren, 421 E. Main Street, Thorp, and a 1970 graduate of Thorp High School. A political science major, he was one of four magna cum laude scholars in the class of 1975. As a junior at MSC, Broeren was selected to the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Airman Judith K. West, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil E. Roland of R.R. 1, Withee, Wisconsin, has been selected for technical training in the U.S. Air Force air traffic control field at Kessler AFB, Mississippi.

The airman recently completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas, where she studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs, and received special instruction in human relations.

Airman West is a 1966 graduate of Owen-Withee High School, Owen, Wisconsin. Her husband, Staff Sergeant Ronald J. West, is the son of Mrs. Jean West of Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Richard Reis Jr., 17, who was to have graduated last Wednesday from Loyal High School, drowned Wednesday afternoon, May 21, 1975 in the Black River at a Clark County park about a mile north of Greenwood. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Reis Sr., Route 1, Unity.

Clark County officials said Reis was on an outing with about 20 other Loyal High School seniors and went under while swimming with several classmate, apparently from exhaustion.

News: Colby – Packaging Corp. is Top Corrugator Plant for 1974 (May 1975)

An award dinner was held recently at the Colby Hotel to honor the production accomplishments of Packaging Corporations container plant at Colby for 1974. The plant was named top corrugator plant over 23 competing PCIA corrugator plants.

The traveling trophy for the award is a chrome Baltimore and Ohio steam locomotive whistle, which was presented to the Colby plant. It will be displayed at Colby throughout 1975, when it will pass on to the plant achieving it, but it can be won by the same plant in consecutive years.

The winning of the award is based on Production Efficiency primarily, but included are goals achieved also in safety, waste quality, energy conservation and management development.
