Bartlett, Cyril E. (21 June 1873 - 4 March 1941)

Funeral services for Cyril E. Bartlett, who died in the Neillsville hospital last Tuesday evening, were held Friday afternoon, Rev. O. Asp officiating. Burial was made in the Oakwood Cemetery, Merrillan.

Mr. Bartlett was born in Oshkosh June 21, 1873, the son of Thomas and Mary (Laque) Bartlett. When he was a small boy, his parents moved to Merrillan, where he grew to manhood. He spent the earlier years of his life in the merchandising business and as a commercial salesman, coming to Neillsville to make his home in 1902.

For many years Mr. Bartlett was manager of the grocery department of the J. G. Zimmerman & Sons Co. Store, continuing in that capacity after the store was sold, until 1936. For a time he conducted a grocery store of his own, discontinuing that business when his health failed about two years ago.

In 1898 the marriage of Mr. Bartlett and Miss Daisy Allen took place at Antigo. One daughter, Vivian, Mrs. Arthur Kearney, of Merrill, was born to them. Mrs. Bartlett died in 1926. Two years later, he was married to Mrs. Edna Adams.

The subject was this sketch enjoyed the warm friendship of hundreds of people throughout the community. His was a personally which few posses. One often marveled at the never changing cheerful disposition of Cy Bartlett, for his smile and greeting were ever the same.

Surviving are his wife, the daughter and five grandsons, the youngest of who was born the day following Mr. Bartlett’s death; three sisters, Ella, Mrs. W. E. Beason, and Mayme, Mrs. Harry Darling, Eau Claire; Belle, Mrs. N. W. Taplin, Grand Rapids, Mich., and a nephew, O. T. Darling, Barron. One brother and a sister preceded him in death.
