Elaine M. Handt

GRANTON -- Elaine M. Handt, 79, of Granton, entered eternal life at 1:57 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in the Palliative Care Unit of Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Buchanan Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wis. Burial will be in Windfall Cemetery in Granton. Service as pallbearers will be Ezra, Randy, Luke Schier, Jon Austin and Quenten Burnett.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

She was born Jan. 25, 1928, in the town of Granton, Clark County, to Fred and Emma (Kupke) Scholz. She was educated at Romadka and Maple Works schools near Granton. Before marriage, Elaine worked for a short time in Chicago. She married Everett Handt on Oct. 29, 1951, in Granton. After their marriage, the couple farmed at Granton. Elaine was a homemaker, and she loved sewing. In her younger years, she played harmonica and piano. In her golden years, she enjoyed shopping and dining out. She resided at the Bethel Center in Arpin for the past two years. Elaine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Granton.

She is survived by her children, Tami (Jon) Burnett of Spencer and Jeff (Jayne) Handt of Granton; five grandchildren, Austin and Quenten Burnett, Erin, Jeffrey and Leah Handt; and her sisters, Linda Sweeney of Phoenix, Ariz., Irene (Joseph) Bosch of Mosinee and Grace (John) Schier of Marshfield.

She was predeceased by her husband, Everett, on June 23, 1985; her parents; two brothers, Bernard and Clarence; and two sisters, Anita Noel and Ardelia Scholz.

Elaine has left lasting memories on all those lives she touched. May she rest forever in peace.
