Henry C. Haas, age 86, of Thorp, passed into the hands of his creator on Sunday, January 14, 2007 while at home.

Henry was born on June 6, 1920 to the late Casper and Lorene Haas. He attended Thorp High School and continued his education in Winona, MN and Madison, WI. He served two years as a Staff Sergeant in the Ninth Air Force during World War II. After the service, he returned to Thorp and married Marian Ammentorp of Withee, WI.

Henry worked for Blue Moon Cheese for 53 years, 27 of those years as President and General Manager. He belonged to numerous dairy associations and was well known and highly respected for his work in the cheese industry. He was a member of the National Cheese and Butter Institute, Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, and Wisconsin Dairy Products. He was a charter member of the International Dairy-Deli Association and past President of the American Blue Cheese Association.

No one enjoyed work more than Henry, yet he was even more devoted to his family being happiest when they were all together. He loved playing with his grandchildren; his teasing and joking with them kept everyone entertained. A man o f abundant energy, he enjoyed golfing, skating, and skiing with his children well into his 86 years. Henry was an active member of St. Bernard Parish where he was an usher and counted the weekend offerings for Father John. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Marian; daughters: Barbara (Daniel) Hovendick of Atlanta, GA, Kathleen Haas and Mary Haas both of Madison, WI, Pamela (Lawrence) Howell of Plymouth, MN, and Peggy (Todd) Snow of Lake Elmo, MN; sons: Loren (Audrey) Haas of Spring Lake Park, MN and Douglas (Patricia) Haas of Appleton, WI; grandchildren: Erin Hovendick, Jared Olson, Stephanie and Emily Haas, Meredith and Meg Haas, and Greta Snow.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon (Haas) Olson.

A beloved husband, loving father and grandfather, he will be truly missed by his family and friends but never forgotten.

Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp with Father Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to the Thorp Catholic School, c/o Father Keith, St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Parish 109 North Church Street, Thorp, WI 54771.

Evergreen Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
