Volovsek, Ann M. (31 JUL 1948)

A gown of Chantilly lace was worn by Miss Ann Marie Volovsek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Volovsek Sr., Willard (Clark Co., Wis.), for her marriage to Frank Russell Sladich, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sladich, Greenwood, on Saturday, July 31, 1948.

The bridal gown was fashioned with a fitted bodice buttoned down the back, a sweetheart neckline, and a full marquisette skirt that extended into a long train. She wore mitts pointed at the wrists and a full length veil edged in lace, which fell from a lace tiara. Her flowers were a cascade of white carnations and roses centered with an orchid. She carried a pearl bound prayer book and a rosary.

Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard was the scene of the ceremony and the Rev. Odila Hajnsek celebrated the Nuptial High Mass.

The bride’s sister, Mrs. Mary Staut, Willard, was matron of honor in a yellow marquisette gown styled with a sheer neckline and a ruffle bordering the skirt. A matching sweetheart bonnet completed her attire and she carried a cascade bouquet of white roses.

The bridal aides wore gowns similarly designed. Miss Betty Volovsek, Willard, another sister of the bride, was in orchid and carried a cascade bouquet of yellow carnations; Misses Frances and Josephine Blatnik, Fayette City, Pa., nieces of the groom, were in blue and yellow, respectively, and their flowers were cascades of pink carnations.

Two nieces of the bride, Judy and Barbara Volovsek, as flower girls, preceded the bridal party. They wore yellow rayon gowns with white marquisette overskirts and peplums and matching sweetheart bonnets. They carried bouquets of pink carnations. Another niece of the bride, Mary Anne Staut, acted as a miniature bride, dressed in white sharkskin and carrying pink carnations.

The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Alvin Lawrence Sladich, Donora, Pa. Eddie Volovsek, a nephew of the bride, was ring bearer. Two brothers of the bride, Al and John Volovsek, ushered.

After the ceremony breakfast was served at the home of the bride’s parents and at 5 o’clock a reception was held there for 250 guests. A wedding dance was given at the West Side Hall in Willard.

Mr. Sladich is a graduate of the Greenwood High School and a veteran of five years’ service in the Army Air Force. He is employed at the Electro Motive Division of G.M.C., Chicago. The couple will make their home in Chicago after a short honeymoon in northern Wisconsin.
