Edward Goutcher Dies At Marshfield Hospital

News was received here Monday afternoon of the death of Edward Goucher, 82, at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield, by a heart attack.

Early in December he had the misfortune to fall and break a hip and was taken to the hospital where the fracture was taken care of and he seemed to be doing well but late Sunday afternoon he had a heart attack, from which he died in the early evening.

Mr. Goutcher was born in Manitowoc county in August, 1861 and was reared in that county.

On May 15,1889 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Roth of Two Rivers, and they continued to reside in that county until 1900 when they purchased a farm in the town of Beaver, which has been their home since. To them ten children were born, five of whom, with his beloved wife, survive him.

They are Edward Goutcher of Idaho; Alvin, now residing on the home farm; Raymond of the town of Unity, Maynard of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Louis Scheel of the town of Green Grove; 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

In 1939 Mr. and Mrs. Goutcher celebrated their golden wedding at their home. During the many years of his residence in the town of Beaver he was honored many times by the people of his town, who held him in high respect.

His remains were taken to the Lufloff Funeral Home at Colby where they lay in state until the funeral which was held Thursday at the Methodist church in Unity at 2 p.m. Interment was made at the Beaver Cemetery, Rev. Ferguson was in charge.

Notes

Edward Goutcher and wife of Unity were Greenwood business callers Tuesday.  It was their first trading trip to Greenwood and they expressed themselves highly pleased.  Greenwood Gleaner, 7 Mar 1902.
