Hembre, Lillie (10 JUL 1941)

Standing in the garden of their future home at San Marcos Trout Club, San Marcos, Calif., where the open sea furnished a picturesque background for the ceremony, Miss Lillie Hembre, daughter of Mrs. Ivor Hembre of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), exchanged vows with Irving Downer Johnson of Santa Barbara before the Rev. John Ashley at 8:15 o’clock on the morning of July 10, 1941.

Ethel Mae and Graham George, friends of the groom, were the couple’s attendants. The bride appeared in a dress of antique blue with a frill of white silk organdy and lace at the throat, a picture hat of leghorn straw and, a corsage of gardenias. Miss George wore a costume suit of brown and beige.

Following a wedding breakfast served immediately after the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson left on a month’s trip to Alaska, traveling by air up the coast to Seattle and from there by ocean steamer to Alaska; their trip into the interior will be made by rail.

The bride is a graduate of the Greenwood High School, class of 1921, Stevens Point State Teachers College, and the University of Wisconsin. She taught home economics at Wautoma, Kaukauna and Port Washington, and for the past three years has been in the employ of the Government as home management supervisor in rural rehabilitation.

Mr. Johnson took a course in visual arts at the Santa Barbara Teachers College and has been employed as a projectionist at the Warner Bros. Granada Theater for the past 12 years.
