Johnson, George W. (25 April 1867 - 11 Sept. 1932)

The death of George W. Johnson occurred at the Owen hospital about 11:00 o’clock last Sunday night, after an illness dating back more than ten years.

For several days he had been in a coma, reviving at times, and rallied sufficiently to recognize his brother, Henry Saturday evening before he passed away. Undertaker M. Kretschmer went to the hospital and brought the remains here for burial.

Services were held at the Methodist church, of which Mr. Johnson had been a consistent member since 1925, on Wednesday afternoon Rev. Wendell Beunetts, pastor of Lindsey church who had ministered unto the deceased during his later illness, officiated.

Among relatives and friends from away present were: Henry Johnson and family, Fank Kresup and wife, Ira Markham and family, of Lindsey’ Ora Johnson, of York; Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Chenoweth, Mrs. Jennie Barnes of Hixton;

Burial was in Mentor cemetery.

George W. Johnson, son of James Wilson and Alzadia Johnson, was born April 25, 1867, at Pole Grove, near Hixton, Jackson county, Wisconsin. The family moved to Humbird in October 1885. He remained here until 1908, when he went to North Dakota with his brother, Henry, and family returning in 1923, and making his home most of the time with his brother, who returned at that time.

Of a number of brothers and one sister, two survive him. Henry L., who resides near Granton, and James Cole Johnson, of this village. Several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends mourn his death. Mr. Johnson attained the age of 65 years, 4 months and 17 days.
