Meier, Henry (17 APR 1848 - 8 JUL 1912)

Henry Meier was born April 17, 1848, at Selbeck, Lippe-Detmold, Germany. He served in the German army during the French German War in 1870 and 1871. He fought in the famous battle at Mars la Four on Aug. 16, 1870. After the war, on Aug. 4, 1872 he was married. To this union four sons and two daughters were born, one dying in infancy. The family came to America in 1875 and settled in the town of Herman, Sheboygan County, where they resided for four years. In 1879 they came to Clark County where the family lived on the old farm west of the river until a few years ago when it was sold and a new home made close by. Deceased was taken sick with pneumonia June 7, and on July 8th passed away after 4 weeks of suffering. He leaves to mourn his loss, a bereaved widow, four sons, one daughter, eleven grandchildren and three sisters. He had reached the age of 64 years, 2 months and 21 days.

Mr. Meier was a man of a kindly disposition and loved and honored by all who knew him.

The Spencer company of the Wisconsin Krieger Bund of which he was a member attended the funeral in a body at the German Reformed Church on the West Side Saturday afternoon. Rev. Otto Saewert officiated at the ceremony and burial took place in the German Cemetery.
