Szymanski, Ronald Arthur (November 3, 1946 - August 26, 2005) (Has a Flag)

Ronald A. Szymanski, age 58, of Thorp, WI, died at the VA Medical Center in Tomah, WI, on Friday, August 26, 2005 at 9:10 a.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2005 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, in Thorp, with Father Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Visitation will be held at the church, on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.

Ronald Arthur Szymanski was born on November 3, 1946, in Stanley, WI to Arthur and Jane (Selby) Szymanski and attended Thorp schools until his graduation in 1964. He then entered the U. S. Navy, where he served as the head chef on the U. S. S. Galveston until 1968. In 1969, he was united in marriage to Betty (Juzwiak) BOwen, Wis. They later divorced.

Ron managed Mr. Steak Restaurant, in Edina, MN, until 1972, at which time he bought Jolly Viking Restaurant in Garrison, MN. In 1975, he bought the Blue Goose Inn Resort. During his years in Garrison, Ron was an active member of the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, VFW, and a volunteer fireman. In 1982, after selling the Blue Goose, he sold real estate and became a charter boat captain in Algoma, WI. In 1985, after moving back to thorp, Ron continued in the restaurant business along with catering services, pig roasts, smoking meats, and sausage making. Ron was an avid sports-man, hunter, and fisherman, who enjoyed the outdoors. He was the fire warden for the Town of Reseburg.

Ron will be sadly missed by his sweetheart, Linda Headrich and her daughter, Laura; his children: Joe Szymanski (fiancée Larrissa Bolz) of Medford; Hope (Kevin) Alger of Hudson and Jason (Kim) Szymanski of Owen; and his grandchildren: Haley, Jordan, Alexis, Lindsey, Amanda, Phil, Chayse, Jayda, Michayla, Jan, Tyler, Savannah, Chantall, Octavian, and Conrad. He is also survived by his sister, Marlene (Walter) Juzwiak and their children: Kathleen and Jeffrey.

In addition to his parents, Art and Jane Szymanski, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Bruce (BJ) Buss.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
