Servatius, Leo (1890? - 15 JUL 1929)

The body of a man named Leo Servatius, aged about 39, of Minneapolis, was found along the Omaha right of way just east of town (Humbird, Clark Co., Wis.), Monday evening. Mrs. H.M. Briggs of this village, was walking along the track and discovered a cap lying nearby and upon further investigation ran upon the body, and immediately reported it to the authorities. It was removed to the Kretschmer undertaking parlors, where the body, which was badly decomposed, was made ready for shipment. $7.00 in cash and a gold watch, was found in the young man’s clothing, so evidently the young man was not robbed of his money or his moon, because he had a bottle on his person.

Later, Wednesday, it was learned that the deceased was a cook for Co. K of the Minnesota National Guard, heavy artillery, and was at Camp McCoy with the company. The troop train left the camp on Friday afternoon and passed through here about 1:30 Saturday morning. He was said to have been intoxicated and was lying with his feet out of the baggage car door. After the train passed Eau Claire, he was missed, but it was reported that he had been left when the train stopped in that city. A message from Agent Kvool to the street address found in his clothing, finally located his people at Owatonna, Minn., where they had recently moved. A member of the company came Tuesday night and took the body to Owatonna on No. 16, Wednesday, for burial. Servatius was a single man. His mother and some brothers and sisters living. Dr. Housely, county coroner, was called Monday night, but decided no inquest was necessary.
