Zimmerman, Anton (10 MAR 1899 - 27 AUG 1927)

About 9:00 o’clock last Saturday night, a message was received from East Aurora, N.Y., stating that Anton Zimmerman "Tony", as he was known here, had been killed. He resided on one of the chicken farms adjoining the city of Buffalo, and was employed as carpenter. Saturday afternoon he had gone to Sunny Crest to take down and move some large incubators, planning to enter the chicken business himself next spring. While at work under the machine it collapsed, crushing him. A boy mowing a lawn nearby, heard his cries for help, but did not give an alarm. A half hour later, when found, life was extinct.

Mr. Zimmerman had lived in the east for several years. His last visit home was when on his honeymoon four years ago. He was one of the well-liked young men of this community. He was a member of some time of the last organization of the Humbird band.

His mother, Mrs. Edith Zimmerman, had returned but a few days previous from a most pleasant visit with her son and family, and also with her son Carl, who is in Buffalo, and thus the pleasure was turned quickly to sorrow by his untimely death. The many friends of the family extend their sincere sympathies.

Memorial services were held at the Reformed Church Tuesday afternoon, at same time as burial in his home city, with a sermon by the pastor, Rev. E.F. Menger. There were many present to express their sympathies to the bereaved ones, and there were a number of beautiful floral tributes to the memory of the deceased.

Obituary - Anton Otto Zimmerman, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Zimmerman, was born March 10, 1899, in Garden Valley (Jackson Co., Wis.). Two younger brothers, John and Herman, preceded him in death, and on Jan. 24, 1911, his father was suddenly called away. Before this Tony had attended school in Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.). When he was seven years old he moved with his parents to a farm north of Humbird. This was sold when he was about eighteen, and since then he had not been in this vicinity much of the time, but found employment in Alma Center, in Michigan and in Illinois. In 1921 he went to New York state where he followed the trade of carpenter. On Ce. 5, 1923, he was united in marriage to Miss Mildred Siebert of East Aurora, N.Y. To this union was born one daughter, Betty Ruth.

On Saturday afternoon, Aug. 27, 1927, he was suddenly called to his death, at the age of 28 years, 5 months and 17 days. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and daughter of East Aurora, N.Y., his mother, two brothers, Carl and Richard, and one sister, Alice, residing near this village.

Burial was in East Aurora, New York, Tuesday afternoon.
