James Arthur West was born on March 20, 1934 in Ladysmith, the only son of Arthur and Zella (Churchill) West. He was a 1952 graduate of Ladysmith High School. He worked with his father as a mechanic in Ladysmith and later in Superior. Jim served in the National Guard from 1952 to 1958 and in the fall of 1958, he served his country in the U.S. Army Signal Corp until 1962 during the Cuban crises and in Laos.

Jim and Helen Butrick were united in marriage on December 29, 1957 in Comstock. The family moved to reside in the Town of Hixon in 1967. He had been employed with the former Teledyne Post in Owen and with Weathershield of Medford. In 1972, Jim operated his own appliance repair business, retiring in 2003 due to ill health. He enjoyed working on machinery and truly was a fix-it man. He enjoyed hunting and took pride in loading his own shell.

Jim will be dearly missed by his wife of 46 years, Helen West of Owen; one daughter, Debra West of Owen; his mother, Zella West of Ladysmith; uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father Arthur West and one son, Scott West on June 1, 1986.

Maurina Funeral Service of Owen assisted the family with arrangements.
