Virginia M. Haslow

LOYAL -- Virginia M. Haslow, 87, of Loyal, died at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. The Rev. Daniel Zimmerman will officiate and burial will follow in the Loyal City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Cuddie Funeral Home in Loyal, and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Virginia Marie Starkey was born on June 6, 1919, in Lorain County, Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Helen (Threm) Starkey. She attended school in Ohio through the seventh grade and then her family moved to Medford, where she graduated from Medford High School in 1936. Following her graduation, Virginia moved back to Ohio and enrolled in school to be a nurses aide. She worked as a nurses aide in Ohio until returning to Wisconsin to care for her ailing mother.

Virginia and Arnold Haslow were united in marriage on Oct. 29. 1938, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. They farmed in the Loyal area for many years, retiring in 1975, at which time they moved into the city of Loyal. Virginia worked as a postal clerk at the Loyal Post Office from 1969 until 1983. Her husband, Arnold, passed away on Oct. 13, 2000 and Virginia continued to reside in Loyal.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal, and its TLCW. Virginia had many interests including, sewing, oil painting, playing cards and scrabble, making greeting cards, crossword puzzles and traveling, but especially loved spending time with her family.

Virginia will be sadly missed by her children: Randy (Rachelle) Haslow of Somerset, Edward (Karen) Haslow of Garfield Heights, Ohio, Maxine (George) Tarter of Loyal, Janet (Walter) Hoover of Loyal, and Nancy Rybka of Tacoma, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Herman (Katie) Starkey of Lisbon, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold; one son, William, on July 29, 1961; a son-in-law, John Rybka on Jan. 29, 1989; five brothers, one sister, two half brothers and two half sisters.

Cuddie Funeral Home of Loyal is assisting the family with arrangements.
