Deluhery, Viola (August 11, 1914 - August 9, 2002)

Viola (Henkins) Deluhery, age 87, 950 N. Emery, Stanley, WI, died Friday, August 9, 2002 at Victory Medical Center, Stanley.

She was born in Holloway, MN on August 11, 1914 the daughter of Henry and Ida (Callies) Mattheisen. As a young girl she moved to the Stanley area with her family settling in the Town of Worden. On October 24, 1937 Viola and Melvin Henkins were married in Stanley, WI. They lived and farmed in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp until moving to Stanley in 1954. She had been a member of the Friends Neighbors Club in Thorp for many years.

Viola was very active, enjoying dancing, playing cards and spending winters in Arizona and Florida. She also enjoyed camping and golf. She had a special love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters: Melva (George) Andrews of Stanley, WI, Carole (Cletus) Licht of Altoona, WI; 4 grandchildren: Heidi, Brad, Jodi and Deena and 11 great Grandchildren. Also by four sisters: Frances Brandt of Augusta, WI, Margaret Gunderson of Superior, WI, Lorna Reitz of Athens, WI, Ella "Janie" Grassman of Anawa, WI and one brother, Anfana (Betty) Mattheisen of Green Lake, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Melvin Henkins and Francis Deluhery, 1 sister Agnes and 2 brothers: LaRoy and Albert Mattheisen.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 12, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at Epiphany Lutheran Church, Stanley with Pastor David Karolus officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Stanley, WI. Visitation was on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley and Monday one hour prior to services at the church.
