Tomkowiak, Peter Paul (June 29, 1907 - April 20, 2002)

Peter Paul Tomkowiak, age 94, of Thorp passed away Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Victory Medical Center Nursing Home, Stanley, WI.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp with burial in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery. Rev. John Puerner officiated and grandchildren served as pallbearers.

Visitation was held on Monday, April 22, 2002 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. parish and Knight’s of Columbus Rosary.

Peter Paul Tomkowiak was born on June 29, 1907 in rural Thorp, WI to Martin and Magdalena (nee Franczkowiak) Tomkowiak and attended area schools. On October 25, 1933 he was united in marriage to Frances Baran at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp, WI. He farmed in the Town of Withee, rural Thorp for 38 years until retiring to the City of Thorp in 1971. He resided in Thorp until 1999 when he became a resident of the Victory Medical Center Nursing Home.

Pete was a man who could fix anything with ease. In his spare time, he especially enjoyed playing cards and fishing. He was a member of the Knight’s of Columbus Queen of Peace Council 4634, the Holy Name Men’s Society and a lifelong member of St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by four children: Edward P. Tomkowiak of Wadsworth, IL, Lorraine (Marvin) Michalski of Marshfield, WI, Rose (Robert) Wyngaard of Little Chute, WI and Thomas (Trudy) Tomkowiak of Havelock, NC; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Frances in 1995, 4 brothers, 1 sister and 1 daughter-in-law.
