Sarah Elizabeth Bethel was born in Dane Co., Wis., May 19, 1848. She was united in marriage with Mr. James F. Andrus, also a resident of Dane County, on Feb. 7, 1867. To this union four children were born: Mrs. Ida Royer of Kansas City, Kan., Mrs. Elizabeth Tubbs of Humbird, Mrs. Essie hand of Ladysmith, and Mr. Earl Andrus of Iron Mountain, Mich.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrus made their home in the vicinity of Oregon, Wis. until 1880, when they moved to Barron County, where they resided until the fall of 1900, when they moved to Bethel, where they have since lived. In 1917, they most happily celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Four years ago, Mrs. Andrus was stricken with an illness which left her lower limbs helpless, since when she has been constantly and tenderly cared for by her aged husband. Last fall they came here to spend the winter months at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Tubbs, and while seated at the breakfast table on Wednesday morning, March 31, Mrs. Andrus, who had been in as good health as usual, suffered an apoplectic stroke. She lost consciousness in a few moments and passed peacefully away about 3:30 o’clock that afternoon.

Mrs. Andrus had four sisters and four brothers, four of whom are now living: Mrs. Marjory Knowlton of Kennedy, Minn., Mrs. Mary Hubbard of Lakes End, Alberta, Can., Mrs. Phebe Williamson of Oregon, Wis., and Mr. John Bethel of Earl, Wis.

Mrs. Andrus had been a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for nearly forty years and had been a Christian from childhood. She lived an exemplary life, and died with a trusting faith in her Savior. This sorrow mean the loss of a faithful wife, and a loving mother and grandmother.

The funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tubbs, Saturday forenoon, April 3rd, Rev. C.L. Vories of Marshfield, officiating, and burial was in the Mentor Cemetery.
