Foster, Barbara (11 May 1863 - 27 Nov. 1938)

Mrs. Barbara Foster was born in Jefferson, Wisconsin, May 11, 1863, and passed away Sunday morning, November 27, at St. Frances hospital, La Crosse, after and illness of eleven months.

Mrs. Foster was married to John Foster at Jefferson and they moved to Neillsville in 1881. They operated the old Wisconsin house and the Neillsville Brewery for several years. Three daughters were born to them here. Selling the business they went to La Crosse, in 1892 to establish a new home and there operated the Father Rhine hotel for several years. Two sons were born to them in that city.

Mrs. Foster was widely known throughout La Crosse County, particularly for her extensive interest and welfare work among the veterans of the world war. She was a member of the War Mothers, the Service Star Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary and a number of fraternal organizations.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ludwig, in 1894; her husband in 1895; a daughter, Mary in 1920, and a daughter, Otillia, (Mrs. Ambrose Haag), Falkton, S. Dak., February 25, 1936. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Earl Bartlett, Chicago, and one son, Leo W. Foster, of Neillsville and six grandsons. Mrs. Mary Prock of this city was a cousin of the deceased.

The funeral was held at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, La Crosse, Wednesday morning, November 30, Dr. M. A. and Leo Foster of this city being in attendance.
