-Tews, Velda (Marriage - 1 Oct. 1938)

A lovely early autumn wedding was solemnized at St. John’s Lutheran Church Saturday afternoon, October 1, at 2 o’clock, when Rev. Wm. A. Baumann performed a double-ring ceremony, which united in marriage Miss Velda Tews and Wilbert Kalsow.

The congregation sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," Miss Adelia Schumacher sang "Jesus Still Lean On," and Lohengrin’s wedding march was played by Erich Sievert. The church was decorated with white dahlias.

Miss Edna Tews, the bride’s niece, a flower girl, and her nephew, Jackie Koss, as ring-bearer; Edgar Tews, a brother of the bride, was best man, the other attendant was the groom’s brother, Roland Kalsow; Arthur Tews and John Koss were ushers.

The bride wore a gown of mouselle de swai, with train. A long veil of the same length was worn under a waist-length veil, and she carried a bouquet of white roses and baby chrysanthemums. Her bridesmaid wore white sheer organdy, with drawn work and cross stitch, the maid of honor wearing a dirndl pattern dress of the same material, and both carried arm bouquets of red gladiolus.

A reception and wedding supper were given at the farm home of the bride’s parents in Pine Valley to 60 guests. The house decorated in flowers, white bells and streamers.

Mrs. Kalsow is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tews of Pine Valley. She was graduated from Neillsville high school in 1932 and since that time she has worked as a clerk, being employed, to the time of her marriage, by the Farmer’s Store Company, and through her charm and pleasing personality, won a host of friends.

Mr. Kalsow is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mrs. Lebrecht Kalsow of the town of Weston. He attended the Neillsville High School and the vocational school at Milwaukee for a time. He is an industrious and practical farmer and, at present, is employed on the farm of his father, which he has rented. Both young people have always lived in this community. They are well and favorably known; and upon returning from a wedding trip to Minneapolis and the southern part of the state, they will be at home on the farm.

The out-of-town guests were: Mr. and Mrs. John Koss and son Jackie, and Miss Rose Oehlke of Milwaukee; and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ebehay of Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Reinhold Luetke and Mrs. Amelia Oehlke of Neshkoro; and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Oehlke, daughter, Clara, and son, Willard, of Exeland.
