Walk, Oscar H. (27 Dec. 1908 - 14 Sept. 1973)

Oscar H. Walk, aged 64, of Neillsville, died September 14, 1973, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services were held Monday from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiating. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Geogas Funeral Home.

The son of John and Emma (Tragsdorf) Walk, Oscar Walk was born December 27, 1908, in Neillsville and attended St. John’s Lutheran School and Neillsville High School. After completing his education, he worked in his uncles’ store and at Zilk’s Standard Station for a short time. He entered military service November 27, 1940, and was discharged October 30, 1945, following duty in Europe and at the Ordinance Proving Ground in Illinois.

His marriage to the former Evelyn Wetzel took place February 2, 1942, at Belvidere, Ill. For the past 28 years, Mr. Walk worked for the Clark County Highway Department. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and a past member of the Neillsville volunteer fire department.

Survivors in addition to his wife are two children, Mrs. Bernard (Kay) Poeschel of Durham, N. C., and John Walk of Neillsville; three sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Marie) Zillmer of Greenwood, Mrs. Durward (Gertrude) Olds of Lexington, Ky., and Mrs. William (Leona) Lemke of Schofield; one brother, Harold Walk of Milwaukee; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Robert Urban, Gerald Dankemyer, Herbert Kurth, Marvin Hemp, Ted Dux and Walter Kren. Mrs. Harold Mayer sang "Who Knows When Death May Overtake Me" and "Asleep in Jesus", accompanied by Victor Lehmann on the organ.

Among those who attended the services were the following from out-of-town; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Poeschel and daughter, Durham, N. C.; Dr. and Mrs. Durward Olds, Lexington, Ky.; Mrs. William Lemke, Schofield; Harold Walk, Mrs. Joanne Payne, DuWayne Zillmer, Robert Zillmer and Mrs. Meta Oppermann, Milwaukee.

Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Meihack and family, New Ulm, Minn.; Mrs. Ross Harrington, and Ben Grottke, Marshfield; Mrs. Ken Lovstad, Chili; Mr. and Mrs. William Bozman, Mattoon, Ill.; Jerry Bozman, with the U. S. Navy in Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Boehmer, Rice Lake; Elmer Learman and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Zillmer, Greenwood.

Members of the Clark County Highway Department and the Neillsville volunteer fire department, as well as court house employees, attended the services as a body.
