Douglas "Doug" A. Voigt, Age 65, owner/operator of the Deer View Inn at Hatfield, died unexpectedly Monday, July 24, 2006, in Black River Memorial Hospital.

Doug was born August 30, 1940, in Stoughton. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Gladys and Ed Wittig, in Edgerton.

He married the former Vera McGovern and she later died. On June 19, 1999, he married Betty A. Abbott in Hatfield.

Doug was employed by Highway Trailers of Edgerton and Stoughton Trailers of Stoughton. He and his first wife, Vera, owned a cabin in Hatfield. Twelve years ago, Doug and Vera purchased the Deer View Inn of Hatfield.

He enjoyed taxidermy, hunting (especially deer and birds), shuffleboard, wood carving and gardening. He was a member of the Hatfield Sportsmen’s Club and the Jackson County Shuffleboard League.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; two daughters, Sue (Greg) Wendt, of Fort Atkinson; and Kim (Ronn) Johnson, of Scottsdale, AZ; a son, Douglas (Donna) Voight Jr., of Niceville, FL; a stepson, Chris (Trena) Abbott, of Neillsville; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Pat (James) Moen, of Eau Claire; and a brother, James "Dale" Voigt of Janesville.

In addition to his first wife, Doug was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 29, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Burial will be in the Hatfield Cemetery. Pastor Ramie Bakken will officiate.

Family and friends are invited for visitation at the Busswell Funeral Home (www.busellfuneralhome.com) Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until services.
