Nestlé says change in pizza delivery process won’t impact local jobs

By: Brian Wilson, News Editor

A change away from direct store delivery of frozen pizza and ice cream products won’t impact jobs in the Medford area.

“There is no impact of Medford,” said Kate Shaw, a spokesperson for Nestlé. She noted that the company is looking to hire additional workers at the Medford pizza facility.

Shaw’s comments came as follow-up to an announcement made by Nestlé USA’s leadership last week.

As reported, Nestlé USA announced plans to exit its company-owned frozen direst-store delivery network for pizza and ice cream and transition to the warehouse model it used for its frozen meals and snacks businesses. The phase transition will begin in the third quarter of 2019 and is expected to be completed early in the second quarter of 2020.

As a result of the change, the company will look to eliminate 4,000 jobs nationally while closing eight company-owned frozen distribution centers and frozen inventory transfer points.

Shaw said that while there will be a lot of jobs impacted nationally, that in Medford, no job cuts are expected.
