Tompkins, Morton Laird (21 April 1879 - 11 Oct. 1937)

Morton Tompkins passed away at Neillsville Hospital, Monday p.m., Oct. 11, after a long illness, due to cancer of the lungs.

Morton Laird Tompkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Tompkins, was born in the town of Levis, April 21, 1879, and except for three years, spent a Martinez, Calif., and lived all his life in this locality. When he was 15 years old, the family moved to the city.

March 12, 1900, he was married to Miss Rose Neverman of Neillsville in Chicago.

To this union two children were born, Miss Alice Alena Tompkins, at home, and a son, Darrell, residing in Marshfield. A brother, Frederick, deceased, lived at Martinez, Calif., and a sister Effie, Mrs. Masters, died in Neillsville, Wis.

During most of his adult life, Mr. Tompkins worked at painting and paper hanging and was a skillful and competent workman.

Services will be held Friday at the Lowe Funeral Home, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. The pallbearers will be Dan Melamphy, T. M. Winters, Rudolph Frantz, Frank Johnson, Frank Ruddock, and Wm. Bradford.
