May, Mr./Mrs. John (Golden - 1937)

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. May and daughters of Mrs. Fred May and children drove to Madison Saturday to attend the golden wedding celebration of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John May, who made their home at Christie for about 13 years while their son, Fred, ran a general store there.

Mr. May is a native of Bavaria, while his wife was born at Columbus, Ohio. They were married in Chicago, where Mr. May operated a meat market until 1910, when ill health prompted him to go onto a farm at Wisconsin Rapids.

Seven children were born to this union: John, residing in Canada; Mrs. Carl Schieffelbein, of Janesville; Carl May of Chicago; Geo. May of this city; Miss Florence and Atty. Arthur May at home. A son, Fred, passed away March 1, 1937. There are also 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

In their home lives, in the business world and in their church, Mr. and Mrs. May have proven themselves devoted parents, worthy citizens and true Christians and the marriage vows they exchanged 50 years ago have never been broken.

At the celebration Sunday, beside the Mays from Clark County were: Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schieffelbein of Janesville; Mr. and Mrs. Carl May of Chicago; Arthur May and Florence May.
