Baures, Rev. Steven Henry (March 29, 1950 - February 4, 2006)

With hope in the Resurrection, we commend Father Baures to the Lord.

Father Steven Henry Baures, at the age of 55 and a priest for 22 years, died on Saturday, February 4, 2006, in Chippewa Falls.

Father Baures was born on March 29, 1950, in Stanley, to Edward and Margaret (Beckman) Baures. He attended Saint Hedwig’s Elementary School and Thorp High School in Thorp, and Saint Paul Seminary in Saint Paul, MN. He was ordained on May 21, 1983, at Saint Joseph the Workman Cathedral in La Crosse, by Bishop John J. Paul.

Father Baures’ first assignment following ordination was an Associate Pastor to Notre Dame Parish in Chippewa Falls. In September of 1985, he was assigned as Associate Pastor of Saint Patrick Parish in Onalaska. He was then assigned as Pastor of Saint Anthony de Padua Parish at Cazenovia and Saint Wenceslaus Parish at Yuba on June 21, 1988. Father Baures was assigned as Pastor of Saint Mary Parish at Greenwood and Holy Family Parish at Willard on August 11, 1992. In October of 1995 he was assigned as Parochial Administrator of Saint Paul Parish at New Lisbon and Our Lady of the Lake Parish at Germantown, and was named as Pastor of the two parishes in January of 1996. Father Baures served as Pastor of Saint Paul Parish and Our Lady of the Lake Parish until January 23, 2005, when he resigned for reasons of health.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Bernard-Saint Hedwig Church in Thorp, on Thursday, February 9, at 10 a.m. The most Reverend Jerome E Listecki will be the main celebrant.

The visitation will be on Wednesday, February 8, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. at Saint Bernard-Saint Hedwig Church in Thorp. There will also be visitation on Thursday, February 9, from 8:30 a.m. until time of the Mass.

Father Baures is survived by his mother Margaret; five brothers: Jim (Terese); Donald (Debra); Leonard (Sharon); Nicholas (Julie) and Dean (Vicki); three sisters: Audrey (Robert); Roseann (Tom), and Linda; ten nephews, sixteen nieces, one great-nephew and one great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward in 1989.

The Diocese of La Crosse and the family are being assisted by the Thorp Funeral Home in Thorp.
