Orth, Mr./Mrs. Conrad J. (Silver – 24 FEB 1971)

Mr. and Mrs. Conrad J. Orth observed their 25th wedding anniversary on February 24, 1971. To celebrated the event, a private dinner, followed by an open house was held Saturday evening, February 20, at the Colby Hotel.

Dinner guests included Mr. and Mrs. Emory Orth, Ann, Jeff, Jerry and Tom, Metamora, Illinois, Mr. and Mr.s Bud Dohse, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Karrow, Polo, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Boubach, Doug, Kathy and Cheryl, Belvidere, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Orth, Oakfield, Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad N. Orth Sr., Colby, the honored couple and their youngest son, Steve. Mrs. Orth was presented a red rose corsage for the occasion, and Mr. Orth a white carnation boutonniere.

An appropriately decorated anniversary cake was the table centerpiece.

Immediately following the dinner, open house was held at the hotel, until 1 a.m., with music provided by the Boomtowners of Curtiss.

Adding a note of hilarity to the part was a mock wedding ceremony held at 10 p.m.

The minister (Irma Schulz), attired in priestly vestments of green trousers, lavender curtain chasuble, 1914 pendant neckline and large brown hat, performed the ceremony from a 1906 Clark County Atlas.

The bride (Sonja Strieter) was dressed in a 1946 model brown tweed suit, blond wig and white tam headpiece with red earrings. Her floral arrangements of drooping egg carton tulips hung from a plastic fork. Shirley Witte, the groom, wore brown striped pants, blue vest, white shirt, and black bow tie. His boutonniere was a white gardenia and his conversation piece was a tarantula spider earring.

The bridesmaid (Pauline Zassenhaus) carried the heart shaped ring pillow, on which was place a miniature cherry tree and a replica of George Washington with his hatchet. This pillow also carried two curtain rings adorned with bluebirds and tiny dolls, and was later presented to the anniversary couple.

The bridesmaid was dressed as the queen of hearts, with white organdy skirts and stapled red hearts and red ribbons, and she had a write corsage of green egg carton flowers centered with black buttons and adorned with white ribbons.

The best man (Lenore Krueger) was seen in dark trousers, gray suit coat, white shirt and yellow bow tie, complemented by a snug, grey, wooly cloche. His boutonniere was blue egg carton flowers and fuchsia ribbons. Following the ceremony, the open house continued on a normal course.

Betty Dohse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dohse, Forreston, Illinois, was married to Conrad J. Orth on February 24, 1946, at St. Mary's Rectory, Polo, Illinois. Rev. James Burke officiated at the ceremony, and attendants were Mr. and Mrs. John Pudlas, Forreston, Illinois.

Following their marriage the couple lived in Forreston and at several other locations, where Mr. Orth was a cheesemaker until their moved to Colby in May 1954, when he became chief of police. He is now director of public works for the city of Colby (Clark Co., Wis.).

The couple have three children, Richard, Oakfield; John, serving in Korea with the U.S. Air Force, and Steven, at home. They are grandparents to one grandson, Richard Steven Orth Jr., Oakfield.
