McGlone, Alva V. (18 DEC 1923 - 9 Apr 2006)

Alva V. "Al" McGlone, 82, Greenwood, formerly of Royal Oak, Mich., died at his home on Sunday, April 9, 2006. There were no services held.

Alva Vincent McGlone was born on Dec. 18, 1923, in Munising, Mich., to Harold and Cora (nee Van) McGlone. He was raised and educated in Kenton, Mich. where he graduated from Kenton High School in 1941. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Force. He married Careta J. Alsup on Sept. 7, 1942. in Pontiac, Mich. After his honorable discharge, they lived in Royal Oak, Mich., and he worked at Reichhold Chemical Company in Ferndale, Mich., as a chemical engineer. He retired in 1989, and moved back to Kenton, Mich., where he bought and restored an 85-year-old farm. He also owned and operated the Ferrellgas company from 1989 until 1999. While in Kenton, he served as constable, ran the local dump, shoveled snow, mowed lawn and delivered newspapers. In 2000, he and his wife moved to Greenwood to be near their daughter, Vicki, and her family. His wife died on Oct. 31, 2005. He was a member of the Trout Creek, Mich. American Legion Post #373.

Survivors include one daughter, Vicki (Daniel) Santti, Greenwood; and four grandchildren.
