Mayer, Anthony John (July 10, 1940 - March 2, 2006)

Anthony J Mayer age 65, of Thorp and formerly of Greenwood died at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley on Thursday, March 2, 2006.

Anthony John Mayer was born July 10, 1940, in Black River Falls to Tony and Georgia (Gilles) Mayer. He was raised on the family farm and educated in the town of Mentor, Clark County.

After completing his education, Anthony lived and worked on the family farm. After the death of his father in 1976, Anthony cared for his mother until her death in 1988. He then moved to Greenwood where he worked at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen for Adult Development Service’s Greenwood facility. In August 2003, he moved to the Robert and Mary Ann Lewandowski farm in the town of Reseburg where he resided until the time of his death.

Anthony was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood and was a member of The Family Group at Adult Development Service in Greenwood. He had many interests but especially enjoyed polka music, taking pictures, collecting various items and gardening.

He will be sadly missed by his four sisters, Louise Genteman of Marshfield, Dorothy (Bernard) Laufenberg of Alma Center, Marie (Bernard) Kaiser of Loyal and Lorraine (Jeff) Rayhorn of Long Prairie, MN; one brother, Norman (Donna) Mayer of Bangor; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairview (rural Fairchild). Fr. David Ziegelmaier officiated and burial followed in the parish cemetery.

Visitation was held at Cuddie Funeral Home in Greenwood, Sunday, March 5, 2006, from 4 - 7 p.m. with a 6 p.m. Rosary service and at the church Monday from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the service.

Anthony’s nephews served as the pallbearers.
