Cole, Elvira M. (2 JUN 1840 - 25 JUN 1911)

Mrs. Elvira Cole, wife of Mr. Ira K. Cole, a resident of Colby, Clark Co., Wis. for twenty-nine years, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday morning, June 25, 1911, at 2 o’clock, aged 71 years and 24 days.

Elvira M. Potts was born in Darlington, Canada, on June 2nd, 1840. The following year her parents moved to Ohio, making the journey by ox team, locating in Milford Township, Defiance Co., where she lived until 1872. On Aug. 3rd, 1862, she was united in marriage to Ira K. Cole of that place. In 1872 the family moved to Minnesota, where they resided ten years. In 1882 they came to Colby and have resided here ever since. The husband, three children, Mrs. H. J. Cade of Packwaukee, Wis., L.M. Cole of Decatur, Ill, and Ira L. Cole of Madison, Wis., and nine grandchildren, survive her.

None ever entered her home without a warm welcome nor left without feeling the warmth of a genuine hospitality, so characteristic of the people of her ancestry. Disease did not destroy the charm of a kind indulgent disposition, nor old age diminish her unselfish solicitude for her friends and loved ones. She united with the Methodist Church in early life and loved to attend its services. She was not only faithful to her church, but just as faithful in believing that it was her duty as a Christian to do the will of her Master at all times. She was always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need, both in acts of kindness and in words.

While she has continued to enjoy the society of her family and friends, she has for the past year realized that her active life was over and with resignation awaited the Divine call, and before the beautiful Sunday morning was kissed by the rising sun, her spirit took it flight to that home the Christian believes is the fulfillment of the life everlasting.

The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. H. Bastow officiating, and paid a beautiful tribute to the memory of the deceased. The W.R.C. of which order she was a member attended the funeral in a body and held their impressive services at the close of the church service, after which all that was mortal of this good woman was tenderly conveyed to our Silent City, were the burial took place.
