Oldham, Erna (14 MAR 1908 - 18 MAY 1929)

NEILLSVILLE, Clark Co., Wis. - The funeral services of Mrs. Lafayette Oldham, who died at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield on Saturday morning, were held at the Lutheran Church at Globe, Clark Co., at 2 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Walter Motzkus, pastor of the Globe Lutheran Church, officiating. A short service at the Fred Glasow home preceded the church service. Interment took place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Miss Erna Glasow, Mrs. Oldhham’s maiden name, was born on March 14, 1908 in the town of Weston, Clark county, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Glasow. Miss Erna received her early education at the Fairview school near her home, and after completing her course at the rural school, she entered the Neillsville High School, from which she graduated in 1924. Miss Glasow specialized in the Teachers’ Training department. For three years, she followed the profession of a rural school teacher, teaching for two years at the Wild Wood School in the town of Seif, and one year at the Silver Crest School in the town of Pine Valley.

On June 6, 1927, Miss Glasow was united in marriage with Lafayette Oldham and the newlyweds went to housekeeping with the bride’s parents in the town of Weston. Mrs. Oldham served the Globe Lutheran Church as organist during the past three years.

Six weeks ago she became ill and after receiving the best of care for four weeks at home, the family decided to take her to the St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield where she would be in the care of specialists. After lingering for two weeks, she died as above stated at 6:15 Saturday morning and the remains were brought to the home in Weston to await burial.

The Globe Church was only large enough to hold half of the friends who gathered to pay their last respects.

Beautiful sprays and wreaths of flowers were sent or brought in from a host of friends as a tribute. Six girlfriends acted as flower girls. The following friends acted as pallbearers: William Lueck, Anton Meihak, Alvin Meihak, Marlin Schutte, John Schutte, and Alvin Wendt.

Deceased leaves her husband, a mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Glasow, at home; two sisters, Verona, Mrs. Rudolph Fristche of Dorchester, and Elizabeth, Mrs. John Strangfeld of Pine Valley; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. August Beyer of Pine Valley.

Those from out of the city attending the funeral were: Miss Minnie and Miss Margaret Beyer of Glencoe, Ill., Miss Ida Beyer of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. William Oldham, Jr. and daughter of Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mooney of Kaukauna; Herman Fritsche, Mrs. Henry Fritsche, and Mr. And Mrs. Anton Ludwig of Dorchester; and Mrs. Herbert Voigt of Stetsonville.
