Freeman, Lizzie (? - 25 SEP 1908)

Dr. D.R. Freeman received a dispatch from North Fond du Lac, last Friday noon, announcing the death of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Henry J. Freeman, and left on the day limited for that place. He returned Saturday, and went down again Sunday to attend the funeral. He informed us that Lizzie, as she was familiarly called by her many Colby, Clark Co., Wis. friends, was found dead in the kitchen of her home at about 10:30, Friday morning, by the iceman, who was making his rounds. She was lying on the floor with a mop in her hand, having evidently been mopping, and at the same time putting up fruit, as a kettle of preserves was still on the stove burned to a crisp. Heart trouble was the cause of death.

Henry Freeman grew to young manhood in this city, and later resided here with his family while agent at this station, and we all sympathize with him and the boys in their deep sorrow.

The Fond du Lac Daily Reporter of Saturday, published the following obituary:

"The news of the sudden death of Mrs. Henry Freeman at her home in North Fond du Lac yesterday morning came as a severe shock to the many friends of the deceased in city and county, and today expressions of the greatest sympathy are extended the bereaved husband, children, brothers and sisters. Mrs. Freeman, was formerly Miss Lizzie Carberry of Friendship, The daughter of Charles Carberry, a pioneer and sterling resident, who for many years represented that town in the county board and was universally respected and esteemed. Mrs. Freeman spent many of her girlhood days in Fond du Lac and was a graduate of the high school. After graduating she taught in the school of Fond du Lac and Taylor Counties, and 22 years ago married Mr. Freeman, who is train dispatcher of the Wis. Central at North Fond du Lac. It is a coincidence that her death took place on the 22nd anniversary of her marriage. Surviving her are her husband and two sons, Edward C., a machinist in the Central shops and Joseph H., a student in the high school. Also her sisters, Misses Anna and Sarah, living on the Carberry homestead, and Mrs. Mary Jane Percell, all of Friendship, Mrs. Ella Caswell of Eau Claire, and Mrs. Maggie McCarren of Taconite, Minn., and her brothers, Hon. Joseph Carberry, ex-assemblyman, and Charles L. Carberry, ex-clerk of the court and present supervisor for North Fond du Lac."

"The funeral took place from her home and the church of the Presentation, at 9:30 Monday morning, Rev. Father J.J. Collins officiating, following by interment at Cavalry.
