J. W. Cirkel & Sons last week purchased a strip of land about 125 feet wide and 500 feet long of Geo. Leslie, and will erect thereon another set of dry houses for use in their heading business, their present dry kiln capacity being insufficient for their needs. The ground purchased lies across the W. C. track directly north of their present plant.

***Note: John William Cirkel, was founder of the village of Boyd in Chippewa Co., Wisconsin.  He had built a new lumber and stave mill that would, in time, make work for 150 hands. "Looks like we're on the wrong side of the fence." Moore commented to the only other businessman in the settlement of Edson Center. Adams and Moore moved their business establishments to Boyd joining Cirkel in the building of that village.

In March, 1885, John Goodland was solicited by 726 electors of the Tenth circuit to become a candidate for judge at the approaching election. Mr. Goodland accepted the invitation. Among the signers at Appleton were H. W. Tenney, S. P. Ming, John W. Cirkel, A. H. Conkey, James Golden and Welcome Hyde. Judge Harriman was candidate for county judge. The contest assumed something of a partisan nature -- that for circuit judge. The candidates finally narrowed down to Myers and Goodland, the latter was formally nominated for the office by the democrats.
