Firnstahl, Stephen (29 JUL 1860 - APR 1907)

(A portion of the beginning of this obituary was missed)

Stephen Firnstahl was born in Zannegg, Austria, July 29th, 1860, and came to America with his parents in 1874, and to Colby, Wis. one year later, and the family settled on the farm now owned by Paul Firnstahl. He learned the trade of shoemaker and worked for his brother Frank until the year 1887, when he went to Chicago, where he resided nearly eight years. He was married in 1895 to Miss Marie Peter, and the same year returned to Colby, purchasing the Frank Waldt farm in the town of Hull, Marathon Co., where he resided happily with his family up to the time of his death. In the early days Steve took part in all our social gatherings and was a general favorite and has always been held in high esteem. It is the opinion of all that brooding over his own poor health and the sickness of his son Herbert, had so unsettled his mind that he knew not what he was doing at the time the rash act was committed.

He leaves his widow and five children, his aged mother, his three brothers, Frank, Paul and Mike and their families, bowed down in great sorrow, and we all sympathize with them.

The funeral was held from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Monday forenoon at 10 o’clock, Rev. Wm. Reding officiating.
