Wicker, Charles A. (16 SEP 1865 - 24 SEP 1898)

Died, at his residence in this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), at midnight Saturday night, Sept. 24th, 1898, of consumption, Charles A. Wicker, aged 33 years and 8 days.

Charley Wicker was born in Washington Co., Wis., Sept. 16th, 1865, and came to this place wit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H.H. Wicker, in 1872. He lived on the farm until he was nearly of age, when be began work, much of the time as a woodsman, but shortly after reaching his majority he went to Chicago, where he soon got employment on the police force of C., M. & St. P. R.R. Co. This position he held until about seven years ago, when he gave it up and took charge of an ice delivery.

About three years ago his health began to give away and he gave up that position and tried other employments in the hopes that he might regain his health, and last October he went to Colorado hoping to receive beneficial results, and remained there until July last. Continuing to fail he came to Colby in July and has since made his home here, waiting patiently for the summons to come.

He was united in marriage, at Chicago, May 28th, 1894, with Miss Kate Greenberg of Peru, Ind., who with a little son mourns the death of an ever kind and devoted husband and father.

Charley was ever a true friends where once his friendship was place; was good natured, hard to provoke to a quarrel, but always ready to stand for the right. When he went to Chicago he was tall, six feet five inches, square shouldered and broad chested, as magnificent a specimen of manhood as ever walked.

The funeral was held from the M.E. Church on Monday afternoon and the remains followed by a large concourse of friends, were interred in Colby Cemetery, Rev. S. A. Hoffman officiating.
