Betzold, George (29 AUG 1871 - 14 OCT 1932)

The many friends and acquaintances of George Betzold were shocked to learn of his death which occurred on October 14th at the Northern Pacific Hospital at Minneapolis, Minn.

The deceased was born in Jefferson, Wis., on August 29, 1871 In 1892 he was married to Anna Schuld. In 1899 he came to Loyal where he resided until 19 years ago when he moved to Minneapolis, during which time he worked for the American Express Company until a year ago when he bought a grocery store.

Mr. Betzold was a man of sterling character and highly respected by all those who came in contact with him. He was a member of the Catholic Foresters for 39 years and was also a member of the Brotherhood of Railroads.

The deceased leaves to mourn his loss his wife Anna, two daughters Mrs. W. Oelschlegel of St. Paul and Mrs. Lloyd Luby of Minneapolis; one son Edwin of Bayfield. Another son Cletus preceded him in death six years ago. He is also survived by two sisters and two brothers having preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held from St. Anthony’s Church in Loyal on Monday morning, Rev. A. J. Aurit officiating. Interment was made in the parish cemetery. Pall bearers were: Albert Duval. John Geiger, Tom Murphy, Leo Theisen and Frank Pink all of Loyal and Geo. Donhard of Marshfield, all members of the Catholic Foresters.

Those from away who attended the funeral service were: John and Bonnie Betzold, brothers of the deceased; Frank Betzold, a nephew and Marion Betzold, a niece of Jefferson; also his sisters Margaret of Rockford, Ill., and Helen of Chicago.
