Petranovich, Roger Ray (25 August 1958 - 13 May 2014)

Roger R. Petranovich, age 55, of Thorp, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in the Town of Anson, Chippewa County. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2014, at St. Hedwig’s Chapel in Thorp. Burial will take place in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation was held at St. Hedwig’s Chapel, on Friday, from 11 a.m. until time of service.

Roger Ray Petranovich was born on August 25, 1958, in Stanley, WI, the son of James Sr. and Genevieve (Lasiuk) Petranovich. He was raised and received his education in Thorp, graduating from Thorp High School in 1977. After completing high school, Roger was a self-employed milk hauler for Greenwood Milk Products, in Greenwood, for 25 years. He was united in marriage to Melissa J. Jarocki at St. Hedwig’s Chapel on July 11, 1981. For the past five years he has been employed at Haas Sons, Inc. in Thorp.

He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church. He loved to work on his hobby farm, where he raised cattle and especially took great pride in his pond, where he held many family gatherings. Roger enjoyed spending time with his family, which he loved unconditionally. He also loved a good fireworks display, deer hunting and his many fishing trips to Canada.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Melissa, of Thorp; his three children: Nick (Nikki) of Greenwood, Amy Petranovich of Eau Claire, Lindsey Petranovich of Thorp; one granddaughter: Aura Petranovich; his mother: Genevieve Petranovich of Thorp; six siblings: Wayne (Christina) Petranovich of Thorp, James, Jr. (Julianne) Petranovich of Thorp, Roy (Holly) Petranovich of Appleton, Shirley (Sterling) Wright of Baraboo, Sherry (Greg) Murphy of Thorp, Jeannie Petranovich of Seattle, WA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Petranovich, Sr.; and one sister, Joyce Petranovich in infancy.

Withee Man Killed in Single Vehicle Crash

On Tuesday, May 13, at approximately 9:33 a.m. Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on CTH S, about half a mile east of 220th Street in the Town of Anson in Chippewa County.

A dump truck, owned by Haas Inc., was traveling westbound on CTH S east of 220th Street and crossed the center line into the eastbound lane. The truck entered the south shoulder and into the ditch, striking a culvert and causing the truck to overturn onto its driver’s side. The truck came to rest in the south ditch.

The driver, 55-yrear-old Roger R. Petranovich of Withee, was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Chippewa County Coroner.

Agencies responding to the scene included the Chippewa Count Sheriff’s Office, Anson Fire and Rescue, Chippewa Falls Ambulance, Mayo One helicopter, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin DNR, Chippewa County Coroner’s Office, Chippewa County High Department, and Jerry’s Towing Service.
