Following and illness which had lasted for several weeks, Mrs. Margaret E. Benedict passed peacefully to her reward last Saturday morning, April 24th, pneumonia being the immediate cause of her death. Though she had never enjoyed vigorous health, she reached the ripe age of seventy-seven years and eight months. She was born at Plymouth, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, on August 30, 1859, the daughter of Harvey and Sophronia Lawrence. When thirteen years of age she, with her parents, moved to Clark County which has since been her home. On July 1, 1877, she was united in marriage to Sanford Benedict. Together they learned well the life of the pioneer as they hewed their farm out of the wilderness in those early days. Their happy union, which had continued for the fifty seven years, was interrupted by the death of Mr. Benedict on January 18, 935. Mrs. Benedict was a quiet disposition, a lover of home, a devoted wife and a kind mother. During the days of her more active life, she was a faithful attendant of the York Center Methodist Church, and in her later years she has retained an interest in things that are lovely, pure, and of good report. She is survived by four children, all of whom lived near her, and were frequent callers at her bed-side during her illness; three sons: William, Merle, and Rollie, all of who reside in the Town of York, and one daughter, Mrs. Belle Smith of Loyal; also ten grand children and eleven great grand children.

"We loved her, yes, we loved her; but Jesus loved her more, and He has sweetly called her to yonder shining shore.

"The golden gates were open wide, a gentle voice said "Come," and with farewell unspoken she calmly entered "Home."

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 27, at the home at 1:00 P.M. and at the York Center Church at 2:00 P.M. Re. Raymond J. Flemming officiating. Pall bearers were P.J. Hannan, Hubert Graves, Henry Anderegg, J.S. Mortimer, Bonie Wehe, and R. Zickert.
