Burt C. Spaulding, a resident of this city for the past fourteen years, died Monday, March 19, 1928, at the St. Joseph's Hospital at Chippewa Falls, following a paralytic stroke, which he suffered on Wednesday of last week. Saturday evening he was removed to the hospital at Chippewa Falls, where he passed away on Monday afternoon.

Mr. Spaulding was a charter member of the Masonic lodge in this city (Owen, Clark County, Wis.), and was the first Master. He was prominent in lodge circles and was considered one of our best citizens.

Burt C. Spaulding was born July 17, 1877 at Portage, Wis. Shortly after the family moved to Stevens Point, where he grew to young manhood. After graduating from high school, he entered the employ of the Wis. Central Railroad. He followed this work for many years being employed at Marshalltown, Iowa, St. Paul, Minn., Saginaw, Mich., and Cleveland, Ohio. Fourteen years ago he came to Owen and operated a moving picture house until the last few years, and since then has been employed as a rural mail carrier.

Two years ago last January he had a breakdown due to high blood pressure. Since that time he has gradually failed until on March 14 he suffered a paralytic stroke from which he did not regain consciousness. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital at Chippewa Falls, where he passed away on March 19th.

On Nov. 3, 1920 he was married to Miss Autumn Patience of Bateman, Wis.

Those to mourn his loss are the widow and two children, James, aged 6, and Ruth Ellen, aged 4; one sister, Mrs. F. H. Murray of Owen; and two brothers, Fred and Roy of California. The late Harry E. Spaulding was another brother.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Hogseth's undertaking parlors at Chippewa Falls, and at 2:30 o'clock at the Bateman Church, Rev. Brum, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Chippewa Falls, officiating. Burial took place in the Bateman Cemetery.

Attorney Orrin Larabee of Chippewa read the Masonic service and the pallbearers were members of the Owen lodge, all of who were Past Master. Masons from this city attending the services were: Messrs. V.M. Wilson, G. V. Rork, L. W. Cattannach, J. P. Weirich, S. D. St. John, V. F. Shereda, J. F. Hughes, E. W. Kidd, H. V. Anderson, H. Hansen, C. L. Johnson, F. E. Bolman and A. J. Olson.
