Owen, Elizabeth (Marriage - 10 Apr 1926)

Last Saturday afternoon, April 10, 1926, at five o'clock, occurred the marriage of one of Owen, Clark County, Wisconsin's favorite young ladies, that of Elizabeth Owen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aloney R. Owen, to Mr. Thomas G. Sargent of Hartford, Conn.

St. Katherine's Church was the scene of the beautiful and impressive ceremony, The Rt. Rev. Reginald H. Weller, Bishop of Fond du Lac, assisted by Rev. Father W. F. Taylor of this city, officiated. Foliage and spring blossoms of green and white made a beautiful setting for the service. Mr. Allen Hopkins, Mrs. William Sargent, Mr. Thomas McGance, all of New Haven Conn., friends of the bride and groom, and Mr. John S. Owen of this city, a brother of the bride, as ushers, seated a large gathering of friends, who witnessed the service. As the strains of the wedding march were being played by Mrs. Fred Graham of Eau Claire, the bridal party passed down the center aisle to the altar, the bride who was attended by her father, was preceded by her maids, the Mesdames Phelps Kelley, Davis Merwin and Miss Elizabeth Jackson, all of Chicago. As the bride reached the steps leading to the altar her father handed her to the groom in waiting, who was escorted by Mr. J. Weir Sargent, a brother of the groom, of Villa Nova, Penn.

The bride wore a gown of satin and lace, with train, very plain, with lace cap and tulle veil and carried a bouquet of pale orchids and lilies of the valley. The matron of honor was Mrs. Ralph I. Goodwin of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her costume was of corn yellow chiffon, and carried a bouquet of deep pink sweet peas and snapdragons. The bridesmaids wore gowns of pastel green chiffon, hats of natural hair, and their bouquets were mauve, yellow and pink spring flowers. The groom, best man and ushers wore full dress suits of conventional black, each wearing a white rose.

At six o'clock a formal reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Aloney Owen, home of the bride, which lasted throughout the evening. The guests visited the gift room, where were displayed many beautiful tokens, in attractive array, consisting of china, silverware, clocks, linens, pictures, etc. A sumptuous wedding dinner was served in a large tent, which was set up and adjoining the sun parlor on the south side of the home, the house decorations for the reception being spring flowers.

Mr. and Mrs. Sargent left on the early evening train from Withee, for a two week wedding trip to Florida, where they will be the guests of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Owen, an uncle of the bride, at their winter home at Seabreeze.

Thre groom is in the general insurance business at Hartford, Conn., and is a member of the family who owns the Sargent Lock Co., of New Haven, Conn., and is a Yale Alumnus. The bride, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen, one of Owen's much respected citizens. She has attended colleges in New York, Italy and was graduated from Westover College at Middlebury, Conn., and in this city has a large circle of friends who wish her their choicest blessings. Mr. and Mrs. Sargent will be at home after the first of June at 665 Famington Av., Hartford, Conn.
