George 'Red' John Vobora

George Vobora, 75, of Medford, passed away July 22.

He was born May 6, 1928, in Granton, to Tony and Mary Ann (Marek) Vobora. On July 25, 1953, he married Luana Holmberg in Northwood, Iowa. George graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1956.

George was a career Marine. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1945, began flight training in 1949, and served in Korea in 1951. He was released to inactive duty in 1953, and returned to active duty in 1957. He did tours of duty in Okinawa and Viet Nam, flying helicopters, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1969 after a tour in Iwakuna, Japan.

He owned Acme Personnel Service from 1970 to 1974, and was a Farmer's Insurance agent for 10 years, retiring in 1987.

Survivors include his wife and a son, Andy; daughter, Julie; five sisters, Marie Gross, Angela Garbisch, Josephine Bartlett, and Libbie Cockeram, all in Wisconsin, and Agnes Gross in Minnesota; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; and four brothers, Anton, Frank, James, and Stanley.

The committal service for George was July 31 at Crown point Garden in Hillcrest Memorial Park. A memorial service was held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Medford, with Rev. Charles Christopher as officiant.
