Kraatz, George A. (4 Feb 1898 - 31 Jul 1923)

George Adolph Kraatz, son of Mr. Carl Kraatz of this city (Owen, Clark County, Wis.), died at Jamestown, N.D., July 31, 1923.

He was born Feb. 4, 1898 in May City, Iowa, and came with his parents to Braun Settlement, Clark County 14 years ago.

When the U. S. went into the late war, he enlisted in the Roster Co. B., 60th Infantry of Ohio, and was sent across to France, where he took part in the battles of the Argonne Forest and Chateau Thierry. He was wounded about a month before the Armistice was signed and taken prisoner by the Germans. After his release he was taken to a hospital in France and thence he spent some time in a hospital in Ohio.

He leaves to mourn his loss a father, step-mother, two sisters, Elsie and Mrs. Frank Horn of Centralia, Wash.

The burial took place Thursday afternoon at the Braun Settlement Cemetery, Rev. W. H. Sargent of the Congregational Church of Owen, conducting the services.
