Lukowicz, Leo (27 JUN 1880 - 25 JUN 1928)
Leo Lukowicz, a well known resident of Colby, Wis. for the past twenty-seven years, died at the Marshfield Hospital Monday morning, June 25, 1928, cancer of the esophagus being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. About a year ago, Mr. Lukowicz was in an auto accident, since which time he has never felt well and Dr. Doege says that his illness originated at that time. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church this Thursday morning, rev. Daniels officiating, and interment made in the Colby Catholic Cemetery.
The deceased was born in Poniatowski, Marathon Co., Wis., on June 27, 1880, thus reaching the age of 47 years, 11 months and 28 days. He came to Colby twenty-seven years ago and has been engaged in the photography business here all these years. He was married to Ida Gierl June 7, 1905, at Poniatowski, Wis. He was an active member of the St. Mary's Congregation of this city and the G. U. G. G.
Besides a devoted wife, he leaves two daughters, Anna and Jane Marie, and two sons, John and Leo, Jr., to mourn his departure. Also two brothers and four sisters: Frank of Colby, Joe of Antigo, Mrs. Clementa Kroll of Poniatowski, Mrs. Phil Koll of Racine, Mrs. Lucie Dumas of Chicago, and Mrs. Clara Duellmann of Stanley, N.D.
The deceased enjoyed a wide circle of friends in Colby and vicinity, for he was of a very cheerful disposition and was a man of generous impulses. It was the writer's good fortune to have known him long and well, and we too will miss his kindly smile and friendly greeting.
